Voices of hope

Recovery Stories

Real journeys of courage, healing, and new beginnings from the people we have had the privilege to walk alongside.

Every journey begins with a single step

At New Life De-Addiction Centre, we believe that recovery is not just possible — it is a reality lived every day by the people who have passed through our doors. These are their stories, shared with gratitude and hope, to remind others that a better life is within reach.

Names and some details have been changed to protect privacy. Each story is shared with the full consent of the individual and their family.

Alcohol Recovery

Rajan, 38

Thrissur, Kerala3 years in recovery

"I had lost everything — my job, my family's trust, my own self-respect. Coming to New Life was the hardest decision I ever made, and the best one."

Rajan spent nearly a decade struggling with alcohol dependence before his wife urged him to seek help. He arrived at New Life feeling hopeless and ashamed. Through the medical detox programme and months of individual counselling, he slowly began to rebuild his sense of self.

Today Rajan works as a supervisor at a construction firm in Thrissur. He attends a weekly support group and credits the family therapy sessions at New Life with saving his marriage. 'My children call me their hero now,' he says. 'That means everything.'

Prescription Dependency

Priya, 29

Kozhikode, Kerala18 months in recovery

"I was convinced no one could understand what I was going through. The counsellors here proved me wrong, one conversation at a time."

Priya's dependence on prescription sedatives began after a difficult period of anxiety and sleeplessness. What started as a doctor's prescription gradually became something she could not control. Her family noticed the change and reached out to New Life on her behalf.

The integrated treatment approach — combining medical supervision with emotional support and yoga therapy — helped Priya address the root causes of her anxiety without relying on substances. She now works as a schoolteacher and volunteers at a mental health awareness group in Kozhikode.

Long-term Rehabilitation

Arun, 45

Ernakulam, Kerala5 years in recovery

"Five years ago I did not believe I deserved to get better. New Life showed me that every person deserves a second chance."

Arun's struggle with substance use began in his twenties and cost him his business and several close relationships. Multiple previous attempts at recovery had failed, and he arrived at New Life with very little hope. The long-term rehabilitation programme gave him the time and structure he needed.

Five years on, Arun runs a small catering business and is actively involved in his local church community. He visits New Life once a year to speak with new residents — not as a counsellor, but as living proof that lasting recovery is real.

Family Support

Meera's family

Palakkad, Kerala2 years since treatment

"We did not know how to help our son. New Life guided our whole family through the process and gave us our boy back."

When Meera and her husband first contacted New Life, their 24-year-old son had been using drugs for three years. They felt isolated, embarrassed, and unsure where to turn. The family counselling programme at New Life helped them understand addiction as an illness, not a moral failing.

Their son completed the residential programme and has now been sober for two years. The family continues to attend monthly support sessions together. 'We learned how to communicate again,' Meera says. 'That changed everything for all of us.'
